Making a Beastie

Each Wicked Little Beasties© is made with a polymer clay, recycled stainless steal framing wire, and compressed recycled aluminum foil. The imagining starts with sketching out a concept. While bending the framing wire into the beginning form, the concept of the Beastie deepens. Polymer clay is pressed around the body and I put details in with all sorts of tools. I use anything that makes an interesting texture. Then the Beastie is baked in an oven with their littermates. Once cooled, layers of acrylic paint are applied. Every Beastie has at least three coats of paint, and once dry, is coated with an archival sealant that helps protects the sculpture from UV light and keep the colors vibrant. Beasties are not toys and are meant to be displayed in creative ways. Each figurine is handmade—not by a casting or mould—and will have small differences.
