First sighting
I had to write this down. I don’t know who will believe me. But I know what I saw. I don’t think it saw me. What if it did? I don’t know. If you find this, please understand I am telling exactly the truth.
I was walking along Davis Street, early in the morning, after staying with a friend. Maybe 5:30am, or 6, headed toward Marshall.
There was a sound, no, not a sound, there was a feeling like I had to look over there, in the shadows.
There was a stillness, no bugs or traffic or anything else could have made that … scratching sound. It was low, and long, and stopped when I turned my head. I started walking again. I thought it was just my headphones being weird. I didn’t hear it again as much as I felt it. I felt it looking at me. I think it wanted me to see it. It was so fast. There’s no way that wasn’t on purpose.
It was small, not even as big as a cat. Well, maybe a kitten. It definitely was not a kitten. It was kind of bulbous, and had two legs with knobs on the end instead of feet, and a tail. Not a long tail. And it was covered in small scales and .. divots? Pockmarks? Indentations? It had eyes. I think. But they were set into eyelids that were more like cones coming out of its head.
I started to feel lightheaded, like I could curl up on the sidewalk and sleep for a month. Every second I had to fight it, falling asleep. Then I realized it was singing. Well, more of a kind of humming? A vibration I could hear in my head but not with my ears. I know none of this makes sense. I wish I knew how to explain it better. I can’t.
It chortled at me. It fucking chortled at me. And that is when I started to run.
If you have seen this, this thing, what I saw, please know you are not alone. I have a feeling we shouldn’t listen to it. Wear your headphones. Not earbuds. I have a feeling those won’t work. Not enough. I don’t think I can share the picture I have of it. No one will believe me. I don’t even believe it. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe never.
